because it's important to start big. welcome to the artist formerly known as 879 s. bundy drive, nicole brown's condo where she and her friend ron goldman were found brutally murdered at 12:10 a.m. on june 13, 1994. her ex-husband (you might've heard of him) was charged with and eventually acquitted of the crime. fun fact: they changed the address and remodled the outside of this place and then the ryan murphy show happened and people were like, "yeah, we have the internet, we'll find it."
1527 benedict canyon drive. you might remember this beautiful house as the place where your soulmate bob durst allegedly murdered his friend susan berman. a fun fact: it's over 80 years old! another fun fact: it's been on and off the market forever because for some strange reason no one wants to move into it! no, this isn't my way of telling you i bought it.
a little bit of a historical throwback: greystone mansion. ned doheny, the son of an oil tycoon, died under veeeeeery mysterious circumstances in one of the guest rooms in 1929. it was one-half of a murder-suicide with his secretary, which sounds shady enough on its own, BUT WAIT: his widow and her second husband continued to live here until 1955. fun fact: they filmed parts of the social network here! at the murder palace!
shouts to edie falco. 722 n. elm drive, the very spot where lyle and erik menendez killed their parents with shotguns in 1989. fun fact: the menendez murder house inspired the exact opposite reaction than bob's murder house did, and the place has sold three (THREE!) separate times for millions of dollars. prince and elton john also rented it (at separate times but can you fucking imagine?) except i think they did it before all the violence-induced hype.
our first unsolved case! 8763 wonderland avenue, the site of the wonderland murders, is on record as being more gruesome than the tate murders. four people died, and despite the fact that everyone sort of assumes it was all orchestrated by eddie nash, a literal mob dude/drug dealer/money launderer, nothing definitive has ever been ruled in court. the fun fact is one we all know but one i can't help talking about: boogie nights was based on john holmes, who was involved with the wonderland gang and eventually questioned about the murders. also, he had an enormous dick.
i read an article on page six about how people are showing up in DROVES to this house — the site of the tate murders — so i apologize for not being original enough, but this felt integral to the tour. (not to sound too tarantino-y.) the place has since been torn down and completely rebuilt, but fun fact: there's a dude named david oman who's lived in this neighborhood for twenty years and claims he's seen a bunch of paranormal stuff, which he of course blames on the manson murders. he was on an episode of ghost hunters, john. and apparently he loves talking to visitors.
let me get this out of the way: this, phil spector's pyrenees castle, like many of the other places on this tour, has been on sale as of this past march, and no, we're not buying it. fun fact: i fell asleep two different times while trying to watch the hbo movie about this dude.
and we end the day in our very own new neighborhood of los feliz, at the black dahlia house. rich idiots like to throw parties here. richer idiots like to bring their husbands here and call it a birthday gift. after you get your fill, we're headed to little dom's for dinner, a dog-friendly italian place about five minutes from this very murder house. i tried to find something crime-themed and then i decided that was insane.
